Jackson's First Words

Honestly I've been dying to make a post the past few weeks, but we lost the cord that allows us to transfer our pictures from our camera to our computer and I've been waiting until it turned up so I could put some photos up, but its been about a month and its still missing....ugh. Anyway last Sunday Jackson officially said his first words. We were about to leave for church and were having family prayer before we left and at the end Jackson yells out, "AMEN!". It was awesome! I'm a little disappointed that his first word wasn't 'mama' or 'dada', but I guess 'Amen' is third on the list of words we want him to learn =). Don't get me wrong he babbles all the time and makes lots of 'mama' and 'dada' sounds, but he never uses them in the right context so I don't think those count. He said amen twice on Sunday and hasn't said it since...apparently he is going to be one of those kids who get their parents all excited by talking and then just stops...what a stinker...=)

I'm not sure how many of you know this, but we are trying to teach Jackson sign language. I picked it up in high school, although admittedly I don't remember very much anymore, but my dad gave us those baby signing videos and we've been doing them with him consistently for about a month now and on Sunday he figured out his first sign word, "more". Since he figured out that doing the sign for 'more' gets him things that he wants, he pretty much hasn't stopped doing it since. Now he asks for 'more' everything. Yesterday he finished his bottle of milk and handed it to me and when I didn't go get him more he looked at me very seriously and signed, 'more more more more!'. Usually we only let him have two bottles a day because his little system can't handle it very well, but I just had to let him have it, it was too cute.

Anyway just a little bit about our adventures with talking. He is starting to understand sign a lot more and he really enjoys being understood, even if its only one word so far. I had my mom email me some of the pictures I text her today of Jackson doing some of his favorite things. Enjoy!

This is how I found him when I came out of the restroom this afternoon, just relaxing on the couch with a good book...what a goof!

This was his morning bath, don't you love the contrast? Laying quietly on the couch reading a book to screaming at the top of his lungs. His two favorite things are reading and screaming.
