First day of class

Today is the first day of classes, which means we begin classes today as well. We have to get approved to work in the orphanage and hospital which will take about a week or so. We were going to go to Brasov (dracula town) but need to be here saturday because the ward is having a bash for us. So we will probably spend the week working on some course work as well as cleaning. One of our assignments is to keep a journal and so Brittany and I decided to take turns posting our journals to the blog I will go first and have copied in this little excerpt.

Today Mario (a BYU hired social worker who facilitates our needs here, she is Romanian) had a meeting with all of us, we talked about basic safety, medical tests and asked a few questions. Brittany and I are really confused by how much utilities and rent cost when food and other basics seem so cheap…confusing.

After the meeting we headed to the mall and got some shaworma, I was a little bummed about getting it at a mall, how lame. But it was better at the mall than at a street vendor who we got it from in Bucharest so I didn’t complain too much. Shaworma is a pita type sandwich with meet, cabbage, mayonnaise etc. sometimes its called kebab.

Carreforre, which is a big mall/wal-martesque store, came next. What would’ve been an hour trip in the U.S. turned into several hours mostly because we didn’t know where anything was or what it was, we had to decipher almost every package, next time should be better. After Carreforre we hung out with the rest of the group a bit and then headed home to eat dinner, Brittany made a delicious dinner of chicken, rice and steamed veggies, its been several weeks since we sat down together to a home cooked meal so that was tremendous! We spent the rest of the night doing some cleaning and will wake up to do the same thing tomorrow. Until then…

La Revedere!
