Another day of cleaning, we woke up late again after another late night of cleaning. Today we were at least able to move past the kitchen. I headed over in the morning to give Melissa (our facilitator) money for utilities but just missed her. I talked to the girls about doing something that evening as we have been fairly boring. They have been doing really well at getting started on homework, maybe we can use our cleaning as an assignment? Around 3 Katie and Melissa came over to take us to get Gogosi (Go-go-sh) which is Romanian? Or some kind of European pastry, I had the apple strudel and Brittany got the Langosi mere which is like an Apple filled donut. The strudel was good, Brittany’s was good as well. The Langosi (Lan-go-sh) kind of like a scone with filling in the middle, I think they are delicious! On our way home we stopped at the Piata, which is an unofficial title for an open are market near our house, its actually underground and there is a giant glass dome that covers it and lets in light, we’ll have to take some pictures because its difficult to explain. The piata is pretty stinky but the produce looks good and it is very reasonably priced. We also stopped by G Market (our local grocer) to fill our cupboards.
We continued cleaning, I made progress on the full bath and Brittany worked on the hallway and the dining room. We headed to outreach around 7pm I was excited to get another gogosi as there is a patiserie (bakery) on the way to the church. Unfortunately no one was at the church for outreach but that also meant that I could get another pastry. I ran up to the window to get a chocolate langosi but in my haste for sweet goodness I got apple instead, Marie couldn’t believe that I could mistake apple (mere) for chocolate (ciocolata) I’ll admit it was a strange mistake but I think I just wanted one so bad I just asked for the first one I saw. It was delicious regardless. From there we grabbed some snacks at G Market and then headed to the girls apt. for a movie night, pretty much everyone fell asleep before the movie was over, a lot of them haven’t gotten used to the time change. After the movie Brittany and I stayed up for a few more hours finishing the half bath and putting a few more things away. We headed to bed again fairly late but felt good about our days work. We should be getting out more in the next few days which should lend to some better posts on more cultural things, our surroundings etc.
I still can't believe you are in Romania, seems strange we can't call to meet you guys for pizza or something. Miss you both!
